The Council meets once a month -- at 7.30pm on the first Monday of the month (unless a Bank Holiday then it is the second Monday) in the New Memorial Hall.

The Council's direct powers are those of a Parish Council. We have a part- time Clerk, a part-time assistant clerk and one other employee who looks after public areas and generally improves the appearance of the town; our precept also pays towards a range of local events and groups.

Key work is supporting and initiating local activities and provision. The Council's main role is in influencing the District and County Councils in respect of their decisions which affect Lechlade.

In 2001, a small number of interested individuals representing different parts of the community decided to set up a Trust that would take on the role of fundraising for projects to enhance the appearance and vitality of the town and gain the support of the community. At the same time the Countryside Agency were urging small towns to undertake an indepth survey of its needs and so the "Healthcheck" which we now call "The Community Plan" was born. Click here for a summary of The Community Plan. A comprehensive booklet giving full details of The Community Plan is available to purchase (at a cost of £5.00) from the Town Council office.
